2010 Subaru Legacy
Love. It's
what makes a Subaru, a Subaru.
Introducing
the all-new 2010 Subaru Legacy. When choosing what to drive, make sure it's
something that drives you.
Love the
possibilities.
A new
hobby. A new favorite drive. A new way to engage with life every
day. Subaru vehicles are uniquely designed and equipped to get you out,
to connect you to the road, and to inspire you to embrace more of life's
opportunities. It all starts with the balance of
Love.
It's what makes a Subaru, a Subaru.
All
wheels. All roads. All the time.
By combining
the balance and road adhesion of

to better perform.
Better
Balance
Every
Subaru is built for AWD from the ground up.
Each one features a longitudinally mounted engine that feeds power to
the all-wheel drive system in a straight line.
Which results in a balanced drivetrain with almost total side-to-side
symmetry that is free of the extra components some other systems need to route
power. This symmetry and balance means
stability that helps make driving your Subaru safer and agility that makes it
more fun.
Quicker
Response
There are
only four small patches of rubber that keep you in control of your
vehicle. The more your tires are
engaged, the more control you have.
Subaru Symmetrical AWD keeps power routed to all four tires all the
time, so it doesn't have to react to slippage that has already occurred. Rather, it keeps your tires as fully engaged
with the road as possible.
Subaru
Symmetrical
In any
driving environment, control of your vehicle comes from one place - where your tires
meet the road. Rough or smooth. Curves or straight-aways. A sure grip of the road can give you the
control to step around danger, and the engagement to find exhilaration in every
strip of asphalt. Subaru has spent
nearly 40 years developing a system for traction and control that employs an
almost perfectly symmetrical layout to maximize power delivery to the wheels, and
to create balance and stability that can heighten your enjoyment of every
experience you have behind the wheel.
Efficient
Design
Because
some systems lack the simplicity of Subaru Symmetrical AWD, they could not
sacrifice efficiency, but also can incur more wear and tear. Subaru routes power directly from the engine
to all four wheels to keep components- and frictional power losses- to a
minimum. All while maximizing the
seamless feeling of traction whenever you need it.

Horizontally
Opposed Design
The pistons
move in 180-degree opposition to each other on a horizontal plane, so each
naturally cancels out the vibration of the piston opposite it.
Durable
Design
The
engine's flat design is inherently rigid, and reduces the amount of vibration
that "V" or inline engines-with more upright pistons - are subjected to during
operation.
The flatter
profile and perfectly symmetrical design of the engine block, and the fact that
it sits lower in the chassis, make the overall vehicle more stably balanced and
resistant to side-to-side motion than other designs.
Smoother
Operation
Step on the
accelerator and the revs come on smooth. While there's plenty of power when you
need it, it never compromises your comfort or control.
Increased
Reliability
An engine
subjected to less vibration lasts longer.
It's no wonder 94% if Subaru vehicles built in the last 10 years are
still on the road today.[1]
Greater Agility
The vehicle responds
more quickly to changes in direction, which gives a feeling of tightness in
turns. And it's less likely to become
unstable during maneuvers, giving you an increased feeling of being in control
at all times.
Subaru Boxer Engine
We think about engines
a little differently. We believe an
engine should deliver both power and control.
That way, it performs as well in rush-hour traffic as it does on a winding
road. That's why every Subaru is powered
by the SUBARU BOXER® engine. Its horizontally opposed design and symmetrical
layout provide powerful, yet smooth acceleration, but also give drivers balance
and stability that ser it apart from engines with a "V" or inline
configuration. It's an insightful
difference that has the power to make driving more engaging.

How do you define
performance?
Refined.
3.6-liter 6-cylinder
A wealth of
ultra-smooth power at the ready. That's
the hallmark of the 3.6 liter 6-cylinder - the largest SUBARU BOXER® engine
available. It produces 256 horsepower
and 247 lb-ft of torque, moving the Legacy 3.6R models with effortless confidence
over the road. This commanding engine is
matched with the ease of a 5-speed automatic transmission, featuring
SPORTSHIFT®
Technology and paddle
shifters, which allow you to easily control shifting for more direct access to
engine power.
Thrilling.
Turbocharged 2.5GT
For those of you who
desire the kind of lift in your day that only high performance can provide, the
all-new Legacy 2.5GT is more ready than ever to oblige. It features an intercooler that's 25%larger
that last year's - increasing the power this engine puts to the pavement. You'll now feel the turbocharged punch of 265
horsepower and 258lb-ft of torque. And
it's designed to respond to throttle input better than ever. A 6-speed manual transmission with new,
performance-oriented gearing keeps you always in control of the action.
Efficient.
2.5-liter SUBARU BOXER®
The all-new
2.5i offers more value than ever. This
4-cylilnder engine generates 170 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque. Ample power for confident driving. Especially considering that, when paired with
Lineartronic? CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), you can get 30 miles to
the gallon[2].
With the 18.5 -gallon tank, you'll spend more time enjoying your getaways and
less time filling up. What's more, every
mile will be quieter and smoother than any previous Legacy.
Advanced.

Experience
smooth performance and save money at the same time. Lineartronic? CVT is an innovative technology
that can reduce the amount you spend on fuel.
Now available on Legacy 2.5i models, it eliminates the need to shift,
thereby preserving momentum. And your
engine always stays in its optimal rev range for maximum efficiency. In automatic mode, it infinitely adjusts the
transmission to match your needs. Or use
the paddle shifters and 6-speed manual
mode for quick access to power and torque on the fly.

Subaru develop a suspension system that communicates with the driver. Its 4-wheel independent design maximizes the
feel you have for the road. While the

chassis. With MacPherson struts up
front, it's a tight, yet supple ride that always leaves you in touch and in

Building
Cars That Last
Life is too
important to slow down with a car you can't rely on. That's why we build each of our vehicles with
the highest standards of manufacturing, with designs that are inherently tough,
and with engineering that can keep you going-and keep you out there. This commitment is why 94% of all the
vehicles we've built in the last 10 years are still on the road today.1 And why a Subaru can keep its value,
and stay out of a landfill longer.
Supporting
Partners That Care
Subaru has
spent decades building relation ships with dozens of organizations that believe
in building a cleaner, greener, healthier and more hopeful world as much as we
do. That's why you'll see us offering
support at events like Dining Out for Life, or promoting responsible recreation
with Leave No Trace. Our recent Share
the Love sales event harnessed the generosity of Subaru owners to raise neatly
five million dollars for deserving causes like the ASPCA and Habitat for
Humanity.

Subaru of America announced the EPA fuel economy results for 2010MY Legacy. The 2010 All-Wheel Drive Legacy achieves up to 26 mpg combined and 31 mpg highway, despite having grown in size in almost every dimension.
Specifically, the Legacy 2.5i CVT now exhibits better fuel economy (EPA combined) than such Front-Wheel competitors such as Honda Accord, Mazda6i, VW Passat and Hyundai Sonata. Furthermore, the new Legacy is now the highest rated midsize AWD sedan (EPA combined) in the U.S. market for 2010MY.
Tim Mahoney, senior vice president and CMO of Subaru of America said, "We are thrilled that the all-new 2010 Legacy not only offers more space and a more rewarding drive than the competition, but it also delivers better fuel economy at a very competitive price."
The Subaru Legacy comes with Subaru's legendary Boxer engine, Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, quick-ratio steering and a new double-wishbone suspension system. The 2010 Legacy has an entry-level price of $19,995 (excl. delivery) and will provide an alternative for customers looking for more from the mid-sized sedan segment.
